Compare pool service software

Compare pool service software around the work you actually do

There's no single "best" pool service app — only the one that fits your routes, your team and how you run the back office. This page is a buyer's checklist, not a ranking. Skimmer and Pool Brain both cover core routing, billing and quoting; Swimming Pool On Demand is built phone-first with agreements, e-signature and accounting in one platform. Compare them against your own business, and verify current terms with each vendor before you buy.

Who each platform is designed to serve

Skimmer is built for pool service companies and emphasizes routing, billing, quotes and customer information. Its pricing is tiered by the number of serviced locations, which can suit companies scaling route counts.

Pool Brain is built for pool service businesses and covers routing, quotes and jobs, built-in billing and payments, and chemical history and costs; it documents an optional QuickBooks Online integration for accounting.

Swimming Pool On Demand is built phone-first for running the whole pool business from a phone — company administration, routes and service tickets, branded proposals and service agreements with e-signature, invoices and payments, a per-customer File Cabinet, and basic accounting on Business Premier. It's designed for service companies that also do remodels and new construction.

Skimmer vs Pool Brain: what should you compare?

Both Skimmer and Pool Brain handle the core of a pool service business — routing and scheduling, quotes, billing, and service reports with chemistry. A fair comparison looks at how each one handles your business, not which "wins" in the abstract:

  • Pricing model and your counts. Skimmer prices by serviced locations; Pool Brain uses a calculator. Which is cheaper depends on your pool count, staff count and the plan tier you'd actually land on — so run your own numbers.
  • Mobile admin vs. field-only. Can you manage customers, products, pricing, staff and settings from a phone, or is the app built around the technician's stop?
  • Branded proposals, agreements and signatures. Do quotes and service agreements generate polished, branded PDFs? Can a rep and a customer both initial and sign, and does signing connect the first invoice?
  • Recurring work and chemistry expense visibility. Are chemical usage and costs tied to each pool, and do they flow into expense reporting?
  • Documents. Are agreements, quotes and invoices stored per customer, or do they live in a separate drive?

A three-way comparison

The table below lists only what each vendor documents on its official site (checked October 31, 2026). Where a capability isn't confirmed from public sources, it says Confirm with vendor rather than "no" — the feature may exist; we just won't claim it for them.

How to trial with one sample customer and route

The fastest way to tell which platform fits is to run a real customer through it, not watch a demo. Try this with each one:

  1. Add one real customer — address, gate code, pool type, equipment models.
  2. Build one recurring route and add one repair ticket, and see how both land on a technician's day.
  3. Log a chemistry reading and a photo, and check whether completing the visit writes the report and the history.
  4. Build a quote or proposal and a service agreement, and see whether they're branded PDFs and whether e-signature is included or an add-on.
  5. Send an invoice and try a payment, and check failed-payment handling.
  6. Do all of the above from a phone, then from a browser, and note where each surface is stronger.

Switching checklist: preserve your exports and records

Whatever you switch from, plan the move so you don't lose records or double-bill a customer:

  • Export customers, routes and service history from your current service (CSV where available).
  • Inventory the fields you rely on and check CSV column compatibility with the new import.
  • Import a small subset first and verify it before loading everything.
  • Manually archive historic attachments (photos, signed PDFs) where an export doesn't carry them.
  • Test the schedule, an agreement and an invoice end-to-end on the new platform.
  • Pick a billing cutover at a cycle boundary so a customer isn't billed twice for the same period.

We don't promise a native connector to any specific competitor, automatic import of every historical document, automatic transfer of saved payment cards, or zero downtime. Plan a manual, verifiable migration and test it on a subset first.

SPOD at a glance
